Master's Swimming

When: Coached Practices: Mondays & Wednesdays 6:15-7:45 pm

Open Practices: Tuesday, Thursday & Friday 7:30-9:00 pm

Practices begin Wednesday, September 14th.

Cost: $175 per Semester (includes membership to United States Masters Swimming.

Benefits: Weekly coached practices, use of Carthage pool during open swim hours, and membership in United States Masters Swimming. USMS membership includes a subscription to Swimmer Magazine, insurance coverage during all sanctioned events and practices and entry into USMS-sanctioned meets)

Fall 2011 Swim Lessons

Session 1: Sept 19th-Oct 6th, Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs (6 sessions)
Time slots: 6-6:30 pm, 6:30-7 pm, 7-7:30 pm, 7:30-8 pm

Session 2: Oct 10th-27th, Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs (6 sessions)
Time slots: 6-6:30 pm, 6:30-7 pm, 7-7:30 pm

Payment: Each session is $72/per student. There is a multi-student discount available: $72 for first student, $64 for each additional familymember.

Registration: Will be conducted via email, starting on Sept 3rd at 8 am. Any emails time stamped before 8 am will not be accepted. Please email the following to bdelarosby@carthage.edu :

Guardian name and contact phone no.
Session(s) you would like to register
First, second and third choice of time slots

You will receive a confirmation email of your session/time slot (confirmation may take a couple days). Payment (check or cash) will be due the first day of each session. The guardian will also sign a liability waiver the first day of class, this waiver can also be sent via email if guardian is unable to attend the first day of class.

Summer Swimming Lessons

Lifeguard Training Course

Are you 15 or older and looking for a great summer job or a challenging career? American Red Cross Lifeguarding is the best place to start! Carthage is offering Lifeguard Training in May.  Participants that complete the course successfully will gain the skills and certifications necessary to become a lifeguard just in time for summer.  To register, click on the "Buy Now" button at the bottom of the page.

Course Dates
The course will meet from 5:30 - 9:00 pm on the following dates:  May 23, 24, 25, 26, 31, June 1, 2, 3. 

Prerequisites
  • Candidates must be 15 years of age on or before the completion of the class.
  • Candidates must be of mature and dependable character.
  • Candidates must swim 300 yards continuously, using these strokes in the following order: 100 yards of front crawl; 100 yards of breaststroke; 100 yards of either the front crawl or breaststroke. 
  • Candidates must swim 20 yards, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point while maintaining two hands on the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
  • Lifeguard candidates must attend every session. Attendance in the course does not guarantee Lifeguard certification. Candidates must pass written and practical exams.
